Miley Ray Cyrus is an American actress and pop singer and songwriter in the same genre as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Hillary Duff. She achieved broad recognition for her role as Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel sitcom Hannah Montana.

Cyrus was born on November 23, 1992 in Nashville, Tennessee to Tish and country singer Billy Ray Cyrus Her parents named her Destiny Hope for the reason that they believed that she would achieve great things with her life. They gave her the pet name "Smiley", which was afterward shortened to "Miley", since she smiled so often as a child. Miley suffers from a mild heart condition causing tachycardia which is often bothersome, though not dangerous. She is English, Scottish, Irish, French, Cherokee, Dutch and Welsh ancestry.

Miley Cyrus, at age 11, found out about the casting for what became Hannah Montana, a Disney Channel television series for children concerning a school girl with a secret dual life as a teenage pop star. Cyrus sent in a tape auditioning for the show's best friend role, but received a call asking her to audition for the lead role as Chloe Stewart. After sending in a new tape and flying to Hollywood for additional auditions, Cyrus was told that she was too youthful and too little for the role. Nevertheless, her determination and ability to sing and to act led the show's producers to request her back for more auditions. Cyrus finally received the lead, renamed "Miley Stewart" after her.

In February 2008, Walt Disney Pictures released a 3D concert movie of the tour Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert, for what was anticipated to be a one-week run. The picture’s soundtrack was released on March 11, 2008 peaking at number three on the Billboard 200. On July 22, 2008, Cyrus released her next album titled Breakout. Cyrus co-wrote eight of twelve songs. On the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, the album debuted at number one. Its lead single, "7 Things", peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100.

On January 18, 2010, the making of the fourth and closing season of Hannah Montana began. Can't Be Tamed, Her third studio album, was released on June 21, 2010. The album's first single was released on May 18, 2010 and found its way on the Billboard Hot 100 at no. 8.

In February 2011, Cyrus confirmed she was done acting and had made plans to go back to music with a massive tour. Cyrus told Seventeen magazine that she and Nick Jonas had dated for two years. Cyrus says that she initially, after the break-up, "rebelled against everything Nick wanted me to be. And then I was like, I've got to be by myself for now, and just figure out who I really am."
